Root Cause Counseling

Therapy for Highly Self-Aware Yet Overwhelmed Individuals

Therapy provided in Washington State

About Me

Hey there, I’m Leslie, an LMHC based in Washington State.

Are you someone who knows what’s “rational”—but still feels stuck, anxious, or emotionally exhausted? Maybe you’ve tried managing things on your own, but the pressure to keep it together, meet expectations, or “stay positive” is getting heavy.

Clients come to me when they’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck in self-criticism, or burnt out by relational and emotional stress. We work together to help you shift the inner dialogue, learn how to sit with discomfort (rather than avoid it), and identify what actually works for you, not just what “should.”

My approach is warm, intentional, and strengths-based. My job is not to “fix” you—but to walk alongside you as you reconnect with your own clarity and strength.

Culturally responsive and identity-sensitive

I specialize in supporting self-aware, emotionally intelligent individuals who still find themselves feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck. Many of my clients have tried to "figure it out" on their own—and they’re tired. Whether you're navigating relational stress, inner criticism, burnout, or identity shifts, I offer a compassionate space grounded in both insight and action.

Specialties

  • Identity & Self-Discovery: I help individuals rediscover their authentic selves and explore how their beliefs, values, and experiences shape who they are.

  • Emotional Struggles: Whether it's anxiety, depression, or difficult emotions, I assist clients in uncovering the root causes of their distress and working through them in a compassionate and transformative way.

  • Neurodiversity: As someone who is neurodiverse, I have a deep understanding of the unique ways in which our brains can process information and emotions. I embrace neurodiversity and work with individuals to create a space where their experiences are validated and understood.

  • Religious Trauma & Spiritual Deconstruction: I help individuals who are processing religious trauma and may be navigating the pain of leaving or remolding a faith tradition and reconciling religious experiences.

Who I Work With

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): This approach focuses on helping you accept difficult emotions, thoughts, and experiences, while also committing to actions that align with your values. This therapy empowers you to live more authentically, even in the face of challenges.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): This approach helps you identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. By reshaping thought patterns, you can create healthier, more positive ways of responding to life's challenges.

  • Psychodynamic-informed reflection: This approach helps you explore the deeper roots of your thoughts, emotions, and relationship patterns. By making connections between past and present experiences, it supports greater self-understanding and long-term emotional growth.

  • Strengths-Based Therapy: This approach focuses on your existing strengths, resources, and resilience. Rather than centering on problems, it helps you build confidence by highlighting what’s already working, empowering you to create meaningful change from a place of capability and hope.

  • Somatic awareness (mind-body connection): This approach helps you tune into physical sensations as a way to understand and process emotions. By exploring the connection between your body and mind, it supports healing, regulation, and a deeper sense of presence and self-awareness.

These modalities, when combined with a strong therapeutic relationship, can create lasting change that goes beyond surface-level solutions.

Treatment Approach

  • ACT for Anxiety and Depression: I have completed specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for treating anxiety and depression.

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): I have received training in CBT, a widely researched approach for treating a range of mental health concerns.

  • Addiction Medicine: With a background in working at an addiction treatment center, I have received extensive training in addiction medicine. This experience has deepened my understanding of the complexities of addiction and how it intersects with mental health.

  • Trauma-informed Care: I have completed training in trauma-informed care, which emphasizes safety, trust, and empowerment in the therapeutic process.

  • ADHD Treatment: I have received training in the treatment of ADHD, which enables me to provide targeted strategies for the neurodiverse population.

These trainings, combined with my personal and professional experiences, allow me to provide a well-rounded, empathetic, and effective approach to therapy.
